To visit the Colca Canyon, we have to ascended by a highway in zigzag by the skirts of the Chachani, then we descend to the impressive Valley of the Colca where you can admire the surrounding beauty of the landscape, platforms, snowy mountains and small towns founded in the XVI century.

Colca Canyon is also the best possible place to admire the biggest fliying bird in the world; the Condor.

Places to Visit

By XVI century, Viceroy Toledo ordered to contain the descendants of the old Collaguas-brave warrior people- that were dispersed in the area in 14 towns that still conserve their original characteristics such as the layout of their streets, their churches richly ornamented and their traditional parties.
Visiting these towns is traveling back in time 400 years.

The first town to visit is Chivay (142 km from Arequipa) where we can find lodging and feeding services.

Approximately 40 km away is Cabanaconde, where we can enjoy the Mirador of the Cruz, the best place for observation of the Condor, the biggest bird on Earth. This observation place is 3800 a.s.l.
